Students at high schools in the Albany Park neighborhood of Chicago walked out of class today in protest of ICE and CBP operations across the country. Walkouts have become commonplace in every major city since the Jan. 23 Minnesota general strike. The Chicago walkouts come three days after Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order that encourages Chicago police to document crimes committed by federal agents. The neighboring city of Evanston enacted a similar policy in October 2025 as part of their “ICE-free zones” resolution.
