The Coordinator of the World BEYOND War chapter in Burundi — who is a medical doctor — in collaboration with medical students and physicians, organized a series of activities aimed at promoting peace, nonviolence, tolerance, and dialogue across cultures and beliefs. As part of his engagements for a Burundi beyond wars, his work has highlighted the role of health professionals in peacebuilding, emphasizing how compassion, ethical responsibility, and respect for human dignity can actively contribute to a more peaceful and cohesive society. Last July 2025, one of the chapter’s meetings focused on regional tensions, drawing lessons from the situations in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. Discussions underscored the important role of youth in promoting dialogue, peacebuilding and reconciliation, recognizing young people as bridges for understanding, for trust, and for sustainable coexistence across divided communities.
In November, the chapter hosted a discussion on the importance of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) in the medical profession. With medical students as future healthcare providers, the session emphasized NVC as a vital tool for empathy, ethical care, teamwork, and conflict prevention. Participants reflected on how respectful and patient-centered communication can strengthen health systems while preparing medical professionals to serve as ambassadors of peace within their workplaces and communities. The Burundi chapter of World BEYOND War uses this initiative to show how peacebuilding is advanced through professional ethics, youth engagement, and dialogue, for the path to a world beyond war also passes through care and human connection.
