As expected, Spanish prime minister Pedro Sánchez has confirmed that Spain will not participate in Donald Trump’s new gangster ‘board’ overseeing the occupation and theft of Gaza.

In a speech announcing the decision, Sánchez said that the board is not fit for purpose, criticised the exclusion of Palestinian people and their representatives and condemned Trump’s attempted extortion over Greenland and for ramping up tensions with Europe. Trump, Sánchez said, has made it clear that Europe must forge relationships with the wider world and refuse to be US vassals:

UK PM Keir Starmer refused to join in the ‘board’ signing ceremony – but only because Russian president Vladimir Putin was invited, not because of the injustice to Palestinians or Trump’s extortion. His spokesperson told reporters that Starmer is still considering whether to join.
