The economic crisis that sparked unrest in Iran is due in large part to brutal US sanctions and a history of Western meddling in the country’s affairs. Threats of a regime change war or other forms of intervention by Israel and the US will only worsen the situation, experts say, by giving Tehran grounds to frame protesters as agents of foreign powers and justify further repression.
