Graham Linehan

British radio presenter Richard Bacon has called out Graham Linehan on X for reposting content that would strip U.S. women of the vote, in yet another shocking display of Western hypocrisy.

Graham Linehan is such a wild raging hypocrite he takes my breath away now. He isn’t fighting for women. All he wants to do is win an argument and prove himself “right”. His raging trans arguments are not about women they’re about himself. https://t.co/yMpHhAX1SP

Graham Linehan shares deeply suspect post

In recent years, a disturbing trend has emerged in which bad actors have co-opted the language of feminism to justify attacks on trans people and other marginalized groups. Claiming to “defend women’s rights,” they weaponise feminist rhetoric to push exclusionary policies, erase the identities of trans women, and pit oppressed communities against each other. This hijacking of feminism not only erodes actual gender equality but also fuels hate and division, turning a movement rooted in liberation into a weapon of oppression.

The anti-democratic tweet – which Linehan reposted – claimed the following:

if we want to be a serious country with law & order, anything short of outright abolishment of the 19th amendment would be a grave half-measure.

Of course, the 19th amendment granted women the right to vote – initially, only white women were able to participate politically.

Bacon confronted this call for a more oppressive US state, and responded:

Graham Linehan is such a wild raging hypocrite he takes my breath away now. He isn’t fighting for women. All he wants to do is win an argument and prove himself “right”. His raging trans arguments are not about women they’re about himself.

Misogyny

This comment builds on Daniel Lismore calling out Linehan on X for his anti-democratic repost, exposing the hypocrisy of someone who claims to defend women’s rights while amplifying content that would strip women of the vote.

Graham Linehan has now reposted content calling for women to be stripped of the right to vote in the United States.

This is not a joke and not satire. The post explicitly argues that women should lose the franchise and frames women as a threat to law and order. By amplifying it… pic.twitter.com/INxou17SEu

The post from Lismore reads:

Graham Linehan has now reposted content calling for women to be stripped of the right to vote in the United States.

This is not a joke and not satire. The post explicitly argues that women should lose the franchise and frames women as a threat to law and order. By amplifying it Linehan is endorsing the idea that women’s political rights are expendable.

This matters because Linehan presents himself as defending women. In reality he is promoting authoritarian politics that would remove women’s most basic democratic protection when they do not conform to his ideology.

The right to vote is not a reward for obedience. It is a fundamental human right. Anyone advocating its removal is not defending women. They are attacking them.

This is what the so called gender critical movement aligns with when pushed to its logical end. Not safeguarding. Not feminism. Control.

This X account reminded people just how short-lived women’s right to vote is:

Sick, this piece of garbage, Graham Linehan is showing his true colours now! To think after over 100 years in the US&UK of having this right, this “supporter of women” is calling for women to lose their right to vote! He is not your friend, fuck him! [emojis]

One more highlighted Linehan’s past behaviour, suggesting Linehan has never had much respect for women in general:

I’ve tried to tell anybody who’ll listen that he’s a misogynist, has always been a misogynist, is not doing a single thing to help or protect women. He bullies women, he lies about women, sends horrible, explicit photos to women….yes, it happened to me!!
He’s a horrible human being.

Rolling back democracy

The 19th Amendment, ratified in 1920, finally gave American women the right to vote—a victory won through the relentless courage and sacrifice of the women’s suffrage movement in the US. It’s worth remembering that this right wasn’t easily won: women began fighting for the same democratic rights as men in the mid-19th century, and it took over 70 years of struggle to secure victory. Now, it seems, Linehan and others want to roll back that hard-won progress.

This demonstrates once again that ignoring transphobia and hate against minorities only creates the conditions for fascist ideology to flourish.
