The Federal Reserve – the independent central bank of the US, responsible for setting interest rates – has issued an extraordinary video address by its chair, Jerome Powell. In his speech, Powell notifies his audience that the Trump Department of Justice (DoJ) has issued ‘Grand Jury’ subpoenas on the Fed and is threatening criminal prosecution against him for giving evidence in June last year to the Senate Banking Committee.
Trump is not leaving power ‘peacefully’
But Powell was clear that he believes the real reason the Trump regime is coming after him is that the Fed has refused to cut interest rates on Trump’s political whim:

For political analyst Keith Edwards, the real message behind Trump’s threat and his attempt to seize control of the central bank has one simple, chilling meaning. In an X post highlighting Powell’s video, he wrote:
I need everyone to start to process this now so we can figure out what to do:
Trump is not leaving power peacefully.
Edwards is spot on – according to none other than MAGA political manipulator Steve Bannon. Bannon told The Economist that Trump will definitely stand for election in 2028 – an unequivocal breach of the US constitution, which limits presidents to a maximum of two terms in office – because he is “an instrument of divine will”:
