Floridians were enraged last summer when a viral video showed men offshore Panama City capturing a giant manta ray, a federally threatened species, and hoisting the animal onto their boat.

I get the sentiment but there are a few animals alive today only because they are in captivity, axolotl for example is functionaly extinct in the wild but still exist because people keep them in captivity. Several aquarium fish are in the same situation. I support the idea of leaving nature in nature but when they have little to no habitat left you should allow zoos and programs like the C.A.R.E.S preservation ( https://caresforfish.org/ ) program to take a few to breed and distribute them to responsible hobbyists so they don’t go entirely extinct.
The way Florida treats its natural resources there might not be any natural habitats left for some of these critters soon.
