Liat Atzili, an Israeli-American held by a Palestinian resistance group during Israel’s genocide in Gaza, has told Democracy Now! that her Palestinian captors promised to keep her safe and healthy until the prisoner exchange — and kept their promise.
She avoids implicating the fighter’s family, saying she does not know their politics:

Atzili’s account tallies with that of other Israelis released, many of whom spoke of the lengths those who held them went to in order to keep them safe — and said that the main threat to their lives was from Israeli bombs and gas. Many of the Israeli captives who died in Gaza were killed by their own side.
