Ethiopian Minister of Innovation and Technology, Belete Molla, stated that digital sovereignty is at the heart of the national transformation agenda with this strategy, launched by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, which will establish a sovereign cloud and ensure the strict enforcement of data laws.
Molla emphasized that these measures guarantee that citizens’ information remains managed and protected.
He also noted that Ethiopia Digital 2030 aims to shift the country from dependence on external platforms to full control over its
own systems.
“This marks the beginning of a five-year journey to consolidate Ethiopia’s status as a leading African technology hub, moving from being a consumer of foreign platforms to becoming the master of our own digital destiny,” he stated.
He emphasized that building a scalable public digital infrastructure is essential to reducing this dependence.
In this regard, he continued, the cornerstone of this effort is the success of the Digital Strategy 2025, including the benefit of the Five Million Ethiopian Coders initiative.
