This information was provided by the television network GloboNews, and the meeting is taking place at the Itamaraty Palace, headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Brasilia, amidst a diplomatic crisis of historic proportions.
The Brazilian move was a direct reaction to the declaration by US President Donald Trump, who announced the execution of a large-scale attack on the South American country that resulted in the possible kidnapping of Maduro.
According to Trump, this action was carried out in conjunction with US security agencies, but without revealing the Venezuelan leader’s whereabouts.
Local media outlets assert that while Brazil is mobilizing diplomatically, the situation in Venezuela is one of absolute uncertainty.
Hours after the Republican’s declaration, Caracas admitted that it did not know Maduro’s whereabouts. Vice President Delcy Rodriguez made an urgent appeal for proof of life for the Venezuelan head of state.
The setting for the meeting in Brazil is atypical. Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira has been officially on vacation since December 21, and Lula remains outside Brasilia, at the Restinga da Marambaia military base in Rio de Janeiro, accompanied by First Lady Janja da Silva.
The official list of ministers who will participate in the emergency meeting has not yet been published.
