At the Cuban embassy in Rome, the charge d’affaires ad interim of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Italy, Damian Delgado, reviewed the mission’s achievements during the challenging year and emphasized the commitment to further increase efforts to improve results.

During the event, which was attended by the Cuban ambassador to the Holy See, Leyde Rodriguez, the importance of the cohesion maintained by the Cuban people around their revolutionary process was emphasized, a process inspired by the example of its historical leader, Fidel Castro, in their struggle to build a better future.

Delgado highlighted President Miguel Diaz-Canel’s recent message on the anniversary, in which he emphasized that “New Year’s in Cuba is synonymous with triumph,” coinciding with the date of the victory, January 1, 1959, of the revolutionary forces against the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship.

The diplomat referred to the complex international landscape, and in particular the increasingly aggressive policy of the United States against Cuba, with a tightening of the economic blockade, as well as against Venezuela and other Latin American nations, with the application of the imperialist principles of the archaic Monroe Doctrine.

This 2026, declared in Cuba as the Year of the Centennial of Fidel Castro, “we will pay homage to the immortal Commander-in-Chief of the Cuban Revolution, remaining faithful to his legacy, and we will be able to face, as he did, the most difficult challenges and move forward, with the faith in victory that he instilled in us,” he stressed.
