Social activist Milagro Sala was urgently hospitalized on Sunday at the Gonnet Hospital in La Plata after suffering a health crisis. She remains in stable condition under medical treatment and is not receiving visitors, according to her lawyer, Alejandra Cejas, and her personal physician, Jorge Rachid.

Her diagnosis is reserved, Cejas indicated, adding that the legal team will issue a statement regarding her health status and warned against the circulation of erroneous information in various media outlets. The transfer to the hospital was unannounced due to the emergency, which triggered the electronic ankle monitor system that supervises her house arrest, generating a verification protocol by judicial and medical authorities in Jujuy.

Rachid, Sala’s personal physician, reported on social media that the leader of the Tupac Amaru movement “is hospitalized and in stable condition, receiving no visitors as instructed by the medical staff at Gonnet Hospital, where the care is excellent.” He added that she “is grateful for all the expressions of affection received from all corners of the country and abroad.”

Sala, who has been under house arrest in La Plata since 2023, suffers from deep vein thrombosis, a condition that has worsened due to her prolonged confinement. January 16th will mark 10 years since her arrest, a fact that, according to Rachid, directly impacts her declining health: “We are facing a situation that is always complex, always difficult… The truth is that these kinds of situations are increasingly compromising her health. Her condition is absolutely precarious.”

Since moving to Buenos Aires, her residence has been located near the San Roque Interzonal General Hospital in Gonnet, where her medical records are kept and the illness diagnosed in 2022, which causes edema and recurrent venous blockages, is being monitored. The doctor confirmed that Sala “is being treated at the Gonnet Hospital by an excellent medical team” and that, on medical advice, “she will not receive visitors for the first 10 days.”
