The first New Year’s greetings were broadcast on television to residents of the Kamchatka and Chukotka, two regions in Russia’s Far East that are nine time zones ahead of Moscow.
“We celebrate it with our loved ones: our children, parents, friends, and comrades-in-arms. Even those who are far away are always with us,” Putin said as he opened his address. Among the main points of his message were the following:
*. Russia’s future will largely depend on its citizens’ ability to rely on their own strength, mutual support and responsibility for one another.
*. Each citizen’s plans and hopes are inseparable from the fate of the Motherland, as people’s work, successes and achievements shape new chapters in Russia’s thousand-year history.

*. Social unity is a key factor in Russia’s sovereignty, security and sustainable development.
*. Those fighting in the special military operation have assumed responsibility for defending the Russian homeland, as well as truth and justice. Millions of Russians are thinking of them on New Year’s Eve.
*. Traditions, faith, and historical memory are key factors that unite different generations and strengthen Russia as one large family.
*. Russia will continue to work and create, moving forward for the future of its children and grandchildren, for the sake of a strong and sovereign country.
“I congratulate all our soldiers and commanders on the New Year. We believe in you and in our victory,” Putin said during the three-minute address, delivered with an Orthodox cathedral and the Kremlin visible in the background.
