The regional organization affirmed in a press release that the legislation passed by the Knesset (Parliament) represents a continuation of the illegal legislation to prohibit UNRWA’s work in the occupied territories.

It underscored that this action represents a flagrant violation of the immunities and privileges of United Nations agencies and a blatant challenge to a recent General Assembly resolution on the matter.

The AL estimated that the initiative will have disastrous consequences and undermine UNRWA’s ability to carry out its mandate “to provide essential and irreplaceable services to Palestinian refugees.”

In light of the situation, it called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities to confront such projects.
