The Director General of the Ministry of Health in the coastal enclave, Munir Al-Barsh, announced a decrease in the number of newborns of up to 40% annually.

He considered that this indicator reflects the depth of the health and humanitarian crisis the sector is experiencing.

Al-Barsh stated that the number of monthly births there has fallen from approximately 26,000 to 17,000.

The official attributed the decline to “the harsh living conditions faced by pregnant women under siege and war.”

Furthermore, low birth weight has become widespread due to maternal malnutrition and a lack of essential nutritional supplements, which directly affects the health of fetuses and infants, he emphasized.

According to the Government Media Office in Gaza, Israeli troops killed approximately 12,500 Palestinian women from the start of the new phase of the conflict on October 7, 2023, until October 8 of this year.
