Since Saturday, strong winds and rain have been affecting the territory, causing buildings (previously damaged by bombings) to collapse and flooding the tents where most of the residents live.

The representative of the UN Agency for the Relief and Works of Palestinian Refugees in the Near East, Philippe Lazzarini, stated that these people are forced to endure “more misery, despair, and death” and denounced the restrictions imposed by Tel Aviv on aid teams.

“The people of Gaza are surviving in flimsy, soaked tents amidst ruins. Supplies are not being allowed in at the necessary level,” he said.

For its part, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that in recent hours, weather conditions caused more casualties, including hypothermia in children and illnesses related to sewage overflows.

According to the UN, another storm earlier this month left 13 dead, including two babies.

In addition, 17 buildings collapsed and more than 42,000 tents or makeshift shelters suffered total or partial damage, affecting at least 235,000 people.
