On Dec. 18, Trump signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2026. Currently, this law includes about US$1 billion earmarked for security cooperation initiatives with Taiwan and strengthens the legal framework for future weapons sales to Taipei.

In response to this new threat to peace in the Asia-Pacific region and the world, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry issued the following statement:

“The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, faithful to the principles of respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law, firmly and categorically rejects the dangerous announcement by the U.S. government to carry out large-scale arms sales to Taiwan.

This unilateral action constitutes a serious interference in the internal affairs of the People’s Republic of China and a flagrant violation of the international commitments assumed by Washington.

Such action directly undermines China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, erodes strategic stability and represents a brazen threat that puts peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region at risk.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reiterates its unwavering adherence to the principle of ‘One China,’ recognizing that Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory.

Likewise, we reaffirm our full support for the Government of the People’s Republic of China as the only legitimate government representing the entire nation, including the Taiwan region.

Venezuela expresses its solidarity and fraternal support for the Chinese people and government, and trusts that, within the framework of international law and under the wise leadership of President Xi Jinping, they will be able to overcome this new attack orchestrated from Washington and that, sooner rather than later, Taiwan will be reunified with the People’s Republic of China, despite the irresponsible actions of third parties.”
