China has launched sweeping military drills encircling Taiwan, deploying land, naval, air, and missile forces in a show of strength amid rising regional tensions.
The People’s Liberation Army of China began “Just Mission-2025” joint military exercises around Taiwan on Sunday, involving land, naval, air, and missile forces, according to the Eastern Theater Command (ETC).

Spokesperson Colonel Shi Yi stated that the maneuvers commenced in the strait and in areas to the north, southwest, southeast, and east of the Chinese island. Ships and aircraft are approaching the island from multiple directions to assess rapid maneuver capability, joint integrated coordination, and the execution of systematic encirclement and control.
The ETC organized search and destroy target training, simulated strikes against land targets, and live-fire against naval targets in maritime and air areas north and southwest of the island.
Additionally, exercises involving strikes against mobile land targets were conducted in the central area of the strait, with participation from fighter jets, bombers, and unmanned aerial vehicles, according to the military source.

Shi Yi emphasized that the maneuvers constitute a severe warning to Taiwan’s separatist forces and external actors, describing them as necessary actions to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Authorities announced new live-fire exercises to take place on Monday, from 8 A.M. to 6 P.M. local time.
These maneuvers unfold during dual controversies: a diplomatic crisis with Japan over its far-right administration’s remarks on Taiwan’s status, and U.S. weaponry being transfered to Taipei.
