The White House officially confirmed the meeting between the two leaders, and according to the official agenda, the meeting will take place this Sunday afternoon at 3:00 PM (local time) near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.
According to local media, Zelensky will bring a 20-point peace proposal, one of the key elements of which is the creation of a demilitarized zone.
In statements to the press on Friday, Zelensky said he could not guarantee whether the meeting would result in a final agreement; however, he believes that both sides will try to “finalize as many points as possible.”
The initial 28-point peace plan—promoted by Trump—was criticized by Ukraine’s allies, who believed it favored Russia.
After weeks of talks between Ukrainian and US officials, that draft has been reduced to the current 20-point plan.
Meanwhile, Russia warned that the leaked plan differs radically from what Moscow is developing in talks with Washington. The Eurasian country’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergey Ryabkov, denounced the fact that “references to a 20-point plan have appeared in the Ukrainian media.”
