Zelenski’s proposal includes a key demand for a demilitarized zone, which would require a corresponding Russian withdrawal from territory in Donetsk, without formal territorial concessions.
In blunt remarks on Saturday, President Trump emphasized his own pivotal role, stating that Zelenski “doesn’t have anything until I approve it.”
He struck an optimistic tone about engaging with both warring parties, adding, “I think it’s going to go good with him. I think it’s going to go good with Putin.”

The summit, to be held at estate, occurs amid intense global scrutiny. UN officials and allies have repeatedly warned that any legitimate peace process requires conditions currently absent in Ukraine.
The Kremlin, for its part, has maintained a stance of openness to dialogue. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said to TASS news agency that Russia is committed to continuing to work with the U.S. negotiators to devise lasting agreements for addressing the conflict’s root causes.
