The New Economic Actors project will allow proposals of up to US$40,000 for clean energy equipment.

On Wednesday, President Miguel Diaz-Canel reaffirmed that Cuba promotes social and productive projects despite the U.S. blockade and highlighted efforts to recover facilities amidst financial pressures.

Cuban authorities insist that the coercive measures hinder access to credit, supplies, and fuel, which affects basic services. The government prioritizes local initiatives, food sovereignty, social infrastructure, and national production chains to improve the quality of life.

The European Union, the UNDP, and the French Cooperation provided financial support to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), as well as for cooperatives and local projects, which promote renewable energy, at the Havana International Fair (FIHAV 2025)

Economy Minister Joaquin Alonso also highlighted progress in clean energy, with a goal of 19% renewable electricity generation by 2026. The New Economic Actors (NAE) project will allow proposals of up to US$40,000 for equipment, aligned with the national strategy.

The text reads, “In Havana, a battery-based energy storage system is being built at the Cotorro 220 substation. Cuba is committed to energy sovereignty despite the blockade that limits technology and financing.”

French Ambassador to Cuba Raphael Trannoy acknowledged Cuba’s commitment to advancing toward a sustainable energy model. The Cuban president’s call promotes energy transition in the electricity grid, the industrial sector, and sustainable agrifood production.

The NAE project will also strengthen territorial development, generate employment, include women and youth, and consolidate the local productive fabric. Applications are open from December to January, and the selection process will take four months.

In 2025, the eleventh edition of the Rebirth Forum, organized by the Rebirth Third Paradise Cuba Embassy and the La Mina project, promoted recycling, circularity, and environmental education, aligned with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.

La Mina Founder Laura Salas noted that the forum worked on six tables about recycling, female leadership, sustainable design, architectural reuse, and artistic creativity with recycled materials, which promotes environmental commitment.
