In its statement sent to the Ethiopian News Agency, the Commission reported that internally displaced persons in the northwestern part of the Tigray Region, specifically in the Asgede district where the Hitsats temporary shelter is located, are receiving “full and uninterrupted humanitarian food assistance.”

The statement emphasized that claims circulating on social media about a lack of attention at that facility are inaccurate and do not reflect the reality on the ground. It stressed that food distribution has been carried out continuously throughout the year.

He pointed out that 14,413 displaced citizens received assistance at the shelter over the past four months, adding that in September alone, 16,775 people, including those in neighboring shelters, received food support.

This figure rose to 18,290 in October, 17,813 in November, and 14,413 in December, he noted.

The Commission revealed that a total of 11,406 quintals of food, including wheat, sorghum, pulses, and cooking oil, were distributed during the four-month period. The overall support is valued at over 257 million birr (US$1,651,621).
