On Wednesday, space corporation Roscosmos said that Russia plans to build a lunar power station by 2036 as part of its long-term lunar exploration program.

The state-owned corporation signed a government contract with Russian aerospace enterprise Lavochkin Association in December to carry out work on the project through 2036.
The lunar power station will provide a long-term energy supply for Russia’s lunar programs, including lunar rovers and observatories, as well as the infrastructure of the International Lunar Research Station, including facilities of foreign partners.
The whole project includes spacecraft development, ground testing, flight tests and the deployment of infrastructure on the Moon. The project is an important step toward establishing a permanently operating scientific lunar station and marks a shift from one-off missions to a sustained lunar research program.
On Wednesday, the Russian Industry Ministry also informed that LMS-901 (Baikal) light multipurpose aircraft completed its first test flight equipped with a domestically developed engine and propeller.
The prototype reached a speed of 210 km per hour and an altitude of 400 meters during the flight. Before the flight, ground tests were carried out on the equipment as well as the engine emergency shutdown and propeller feathering systems.
The test flight has confirmed the feasibility of creating a fully Russian aircraft equipped with a domestically developed powerplant for light aviation, Deputy Minister Gennady Abramenkov said, noting that the success of the test flight can help ensure high connectivity and transport accessibility across the entire country, including remote and hard-to-reach regions.
