The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today announced that all units of the New People’s Army (NPA) are now observing the first of the two-part nationwide unilateral ceasefire declared by the CPP Central Committee on December 15. The Christmas ceasefire will run from from 00:00 hours of December 25 to 23:59 hours of December 26.

The Party reiterated that it issued the ceasefire declaration in solidarity with the people as they hold simple celebrations of their traditional holidays “amid grave social and economic conditions.”

Following the Party’s announcement, NPA units across various regions promptly signified their compliance with the order.

“Mabaskog nga ginamanduan sang Leonardo Panaligan Command-New People’s Army (LPC-NPA) sa Central Negros ang tanan nga mga yunit sang NPA, yunit milisya kag iban pa nga yunit gerilya sa idalom sini nga hugot kag istrikto nga ipatuman ang untat-lupok,” said NPA-Central Negros spokesperson JB Regalado. The command operates in the central part of Negros Island, covering cities and towns such as Guihulngan, Moises Padilla, Isabela and nearby areas.

(“The Leonardo Panaligan Command-New People’s Army (LPC-NPA) in Central Negros strongly orders all NPA units, militias and other guerrila units under it to sternly and striclty implement the ceasefire,” said NPA-Central Negros spokesperson JB Regalado.)

Regional NPA commands in Southern Tagalog and Eastern Visayas have likewise issued directives to their units. Notably, armed clashes between the AFP and NPA have been reported in these regions in recent days, as the AFP continues to carry out heightened military offensives.

“On the above specified days, all units of the NPA are directed to go into active defense mode especially in the face of relentless military operations of the AFP against peasant communities and guerrilla fronts across the country,” the CPP Central Committee’s order read.

The CPP leadership emphasized that the NPA must remain prepared to defend themselves and the people should government forces launch offensive actions. CPP Chief Information Officer Marco L. Valbuena noted that this stance is necessary, given President Marcos Jr’s directive for the AFP to sustain military operations even during the holidays.

“This clearly demonstrates Marcos’ bloodlust and his intent to disrupt the Filipino people’s traditional holiday celebrations,” Valbuena said. “He has nothing to offer the people during this season but bullets and bombs.”

A second two-day ceasefire will also be observed by the NPA from 00:00 hours of December 31 until 23:59 hours of January 1, 2026.
