NHS medic, Olivia Brandon, has accused Surrey Police of strangling her until she lost consciousness. This incident occurred during a protest to secure help for a dying anti-genocide hunger strikers.

Brandon was protesting outside Bronzefield prison with other medical professionals. They were demanding an ambulance to treat Palestine Action hunger striker Qesser Zuhrah. The incident was caught on camera.

The pressure on Brandon’s neck caused her to lose consciousness. She was subsequently taken to the local hospital for CT scans of her head and neck.

The prison eventually allowed an ambulance to reach hunger striker, Qesser Zuhrah, who has been on hunger strike for more than fifty days now. The protest continued all night and late into the following day. IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands died on his 66th day of starvation in the 1980s.

As the ambulance left with Zuhrah, police clashed with the protesters. They arrested Dr. Ayo Khalil, another medic, and handcuffed him in a van. Khalil was the only Black protester present.

Zuhrah and five others are protesting the political imprisonment of the ‘Filton 24’ anti-genocide activists. They have been denied bail for over 18 months under anti-terror laws. Despite this, they have not been charged with terrorism offences. The usual remand period is six months.
