On Sunday, the meeting hall Casa de Portugal in the Brazilian city of São Paulo was packed with over 1,000 people. Workers and young people from across the country had come for an internationalist, anti-imperialist, and socialist rally. They were joined by delegations from revolutionary organizations from 17 countries, who had travelled for the XIVth conference of the Trotskyist Fraction — Fourth International (FT-CI), which is taking place this week.

Under the motto “Against Trump, imperialism, and austerity, unite the working class and the youth,” speakers from Argentina, France, the United States, Mexico, Chile, Bolivia, Uruguay, Venezuela, Peru, the Spanish State, Germany, Italy, and Costa Rica took the stage, as well as guests from South Korea, Belgium, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The speakers included Left Voice member Tristan Taylor, as well as the railway worker Anasse Kazib from Paris, as a representative of Révolution Permanente. Two Trotskyists in Argentina’s national parliament, Nicolás del Caño and Myriam Bregman, spoke for the Party of Socialist Workers (PTS). Bruno Gilga, a participant on the Gaza Sumud Flotilla and a member of the Revolutionary Workers Movement (MRT) from Brazil, also spoke.

The hall was full of emotion when activists whose loved ones had been killed by Brazilian police took the stage demanding justice. The internationalist message was that workers need to unite across the globe to capitalist crises and wars. This is what the conference of the Trotskyist Fraction will be attempting.
