The Foreign and Defense Committee of the Knesset (Parliament) yesterday approved by six votes in favour and none against moving forward on an initiative already adopted at first reading, that it would cut off electricity and water to facilities owned or operated by UNRWA in the occupied territories.

That UN agency has provided, for decades, education, healthcare, and aid to millions of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as well as in Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan.

The new legislation would also allow the Government to confiscate properties in East Jerusalem leased to UNRWA “without the need to initiate legal or administrative proceedings.”

Last week, the Army raided its headquarters in that city and seized all the material inside, amid Government accusations against the institution for its alleged support of the Islamic Resistance Movement and the October 7, 2023 attack.
