In an interview with Newsmax TV, Lukashenko expressed strong concerns about the humanitarian cost of prolonged fighting, noting the high number of casualties and severely wounded individuals returning from the front lines.

The Belarusian leader pointed out that a peaceful resolution depends on multiple parties, not just the efforts of a single country, noting that the U.S. president alone cannot resolve the conflict, which directly involves Russia, Ukraine, and neighboring states like Belarus.

Lukashenko underscored that a quick agreement would be unlikely. He reiterated that the key to peace talks is first establishing a complete ceasefire to ensure no side uses the pause to rearm.

He warned that continued escalation could lead to broader mobilization and even a global conflict and urged all sides to seize the current opportunity for negotiation.

Strong guarantees were needed to ensure a lasting peace. Lukashenko called on external actors to avoid prolonging the war and instead focus on a sustainable diplomatic solution.

“My advice to the leaders of Ukraine… If you live next to a sleeping bear, do not wake it,” the Belarusian leader stated.
