The headquarters of the Glass Industry and Related Trades Workers Union (SEIVARA) was vandalized early Sunday morning in Buenos Aires, amidst the ongoing debate in Congress over the regressive labor reform promoted by the Milei administration and just days before the CGT-organized mobilization in Plaza de Mayo.

The union, headed by Cristian Jerónimo—a member of the CGT’s leadership triumvirate—reported that unknown individuals illegally entered the building located at 371 Garay Avenue. According to the union’s statement, the perpetrators gained access to the building through a neighboring structure, disabled the security cameras, and caused significant damage.

According to the organization, Jerónimo’s personal office was completely destroyed, reinforcing the hypothesis of a targeted attack against the union leader.

For SEIVARA leaders, the incident constitutes a clear act of intimidation, especially after the CGT unanimously rejected the labor reform bill presented by the ruling party.

The union demanded an immediate investigation and maintained that the characteristics of the incident go beyond those of a common robbery, both in terms of the level of planning and the professionalism with which those responsible acted. In this regard, they considered that the attack must be analyzed within the current political context.

Jerónimo requested the intervention of the Justice system through the on-duty prosecutor, César Troncoso, and expressed his confidence that the matter will be clarified. Those close to him indicated that the leader opted for caution and avoided making a legal assessment of what happened, considering that such an evaluation falls exclusively within the judicial sphere.

The union also emphasized that “Jerónimo, 41, is the youngest general secretary in the labor movement,” a member of the CGT leadership, and that he maintains a firm and public stance against the labor reform promoted by the national government.

Finally, the leader affirmed that the attack will not alter the course of the labor movement and asserted that, far from intimidating them, it strengthens their determination to continue with the plan of action, the mobilization planned for the 18th, and the defense of labor rights, in the face of an official initiative that was presented without any opportunity for dialogue.
