Musician Brian Eno just released a haunting version of a Palestinian folk song. Eno is renowned for both his pro-Palestine views and his musical skills. Titled ‘the Lullaby’, the beautifully shot music video shows people among the devastation of bombed-out ruins. On Instagram, Eno said:

We’re No.3 in the mid-week official music chart. We have 4 days to climb the charts. Will you be part of history?

Let’s not mess about. You should immediately go and listen and share the song. If it tops the charts there’s an extra bonus: it would ruin far-right Zionist weasel Tommy Robinson’s Christmas.

With that in mind, the links are all here. Share it a million times. Make your family do the same. And you can listen below too. It’s an absolute beauty:

Eno’s ‘Lullaby’ is based on an old folk song – sung throughout the region – called ‘O My Song of Longing’.

The words are testament to resistance, sacrifice and belonging. Canary editor (and all-round legend) Jamal Awar – who has sung the song since childhood – translated the lyrics for us.

O mother, this is my song of longing

It is better to be stabbed by daggers

Than ruled by the despicable

I walked under the winter,

And the rain quenched my thirst

And the summer when it arrived

It burned from the fires inside of me

My life will continue to be an offering for freedom

Oh night the dew has awoken it bears witness to my wounds the army of the enemy came from every direction

And the night witnessed death

Experimenting with my body

The rifle of the mountain is higher than the highest

It is the key to the path of hope,

Hope in my men

Oh our heroic people, For you I sacrifice myself

Magnificent, clearly. Here’s the thing. Tommy Robinson – the world’s most oppressed man in his own head only –  is current trying to grift off festive music. Robinson has been pushing his weird Christmas carol schtick for several weeks. And getting ripped for it:

Tommy Robinson’s Unite The Kingdom Carol service.

Please all join in:

🎵”Silent night! Holy night!
All is racist, all is white
Round yon Arian mother and child
Holy Tommy, so tender, sieg heiled!
Grift in hypocritical peace!
Grift in hypocritical peace!”🎵

Merry Christmas!😔🎄 pic.twitter.com/EVdYoB57W6

Inevitably, Robinson’s ‘carol’ event this weekend just past had all the elements you’d expect. A hint of thuggery:

One attender at #TommyRobinson’s “carol service” has already been arrested for assaulting a police officer. I witnessed him being handcuffed as he yelled at police. Just the sort of thing that happens at a perfectly normal carol service. #FascistChristmas#JesusWasARefugee

A bad rendition of Sweet Caroline:

Did Tommy Robinson think “Sweet Caroline” was a Christmas carol? At least he’d know the chorus by now, without having to read.

It’s a simple calculation. You can spread the rich culture and defiant message of a proud people under siege from invaders. And at the same time royally piss off a sad little fascist fella who wishes he was all of those things – but never will be.

So go and share the song in solidarity with Palestine.
