The Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on Friday rejected the Trump Administration’s illegal actions against Venezuela and warned that “the growing presence and activities of extra-regional military forces, including deployments involving assets with advanced capabilities, increase risks to regional peace, security, and stability, undermining the very Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.”

In a statement issued in New York, the NAM expressed its “deep concern about recent events in the Caribbean region, including the interdiction and misappropriation, by force, on December 10, 2025, of an oil tanker off the coast of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.”

Likewise, the forum for dialogue, which brings together 120 countries, expressed “deep concern” about the “unilateral declaration issued by a foreign power” on November 29, 2025, which aims to “completely close Venezuela’s sovereign airspace.”

The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) emphasizes that the seizure of a merchant vessel “carrying out peaceful and legal activities,” as well as the de facto declaration of an air blockade, “carried out without any authorization from the United Nations Security Council,” contravene international law and multiple fundamental principles thereof.

It underscores that “such unilateral measures, regardless of the pretexts invoked, risk undermining the stability, predictability, and spirit of cooperation that should govern relations between States, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations.”

Expressing its rejection of the current escalation against Venezuela, the Coordinating Bureau reiterates its consistent position that military solutions, coercive actions, threats, or intimidation are not viable means of addressing any issue of concern among members of the international community.

In this context, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) urges all stakeholders, particularly extra-regional actors, to exercise maximum restraint, avoid provocative statements and aggressive actions, and refrain from unilateral measures that could further endanger the peace, security, and stability of Latin America and the Caribbean.
