Washington’s pressure on Latin American countries serves an expansionist purpose.
On Thursday, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, warned that the United States is currently projecting its “large-scale media and propaganda war” toward Latin America.

In a speech before thousands of panegyrists marking the birth anniversary of Hazrat Fatima az-Zahra, he said that Washington’s pressure on several Latin American countries serves an expansionist purpose.
“What the United States is doing today in Latin America shows that its pressure on nations is aimed at territorial expansion, control of resources and political domination,” he said.
His remarks come as Venezuela denounces the “blatant theft” of an oil tanker seized by the United States in the Caribbean, an act Tehran has also described as “international piracy.”
Khamenei stressed that the United States and its allies have understood that they cannot force Iran into submission through military power or arbitrary sanctions. For that reason, he said, they seek to create a permanent climate of uncertainty through threats and rumors of conflict.

Reviewing the nation’s history of struggle, the Supreme Leader said that Western countries have spent more than 100 years trying to alter the cultural, religious and historical identity of sovereign nations.
“Resistance is essential today in the face of pressure to change our people’s identity. The war we face is psychological, media-driven and cultural. It is aimed at minds, hearts and beliefs,” Khamenei said, recalling that Western campaigns seek to erode the country’s revolutionary memory and the legacy of Imam Khomeini.
Ayatollah Khamenei added that some actors deliberately repeat the possibility of a new war to keep the population in a state of anxiety, a tactic he described as part of the Western “active pressure front.”
He also said that the tradition of religious panegyrics is a decisive tool for strengthening the nation’s “literature of resistance.”
“National resistance is the ability to confront the enemy’s military, economic, political and media pressures,” he said, insisting that cultural institutions must focus their efforts on the areas currently targeted by media attacks.
Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated that the current aggression is not limited to armies or sanctions, but is also being waged in the information sphere, where Western powers are attempting to reshape Iran’s historical narrative and undermine national cohesion.
