The Met Police is investigating far-right racist ‘Tommy Robinson’ for hate speech. It comes after he made a social media comment calling political commentator Bushra Shaikh a ‘coconut’ for wanting to debate him over his Islamophobic tirade about Muslims supposedly wanting to take over the UK.
Tommy Robinson: in trouble again?
Referring to supposed ‘taqqiya’, or deception, as a tool for this imaginary takeover, Tommy Robinson – real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon – called Shaikh a “coconut sausage”:

‘Coconut’ is an insult suggesting someone Brown or Black is working in the interests of white supremacy – and therefore, betraying their communities.
When used by a white person toward someone Brown or Black, it is a racialised insult and hate speech. However, until now the police appeared to be taking no interest in Robinson’s racist comment – an example of gross establishment hypocrisy.
However, the Canary understands that people outraged at Tommy Robinson’s comment have made formal complaints to the Met. The force has contacted those people to investigate Tommy Robinson further. It comes after we put out a video encouraging people to act:

Anti-genocide activist and Canary journalist Ani.Says, who is Muslim, has seen off a number of attempts by the Starmer regime to criminalise her for her condemnation of Israel’s genocide in Gaza and the UK state’s collaboration in it.
However, one potential charge still hanging over her head is a comment describing a Muslim collaborating in Starmer’s repression using the same term, for which she was arrested despite the word carrying different connotations when used between members of minoritised communities. The trial and acquittal of Marieha Hussain was a case in point of this.
Tommy Robinson has a long criminal record encompassing multiple convictions for assault, for repeated stalking and harassment of journalists, for passport fraud, mortgage fraud, public order breaches, contempt of court, and imperilling the course of justice. Remarkably, given his far-right activities, his hatred of Muslims, and his love for Israel, he has apparently never been convicted of hate speech or malicious communications.
Could that be about to change?
