I also keep chickens. They are little assholes. You might have an emotional attachment to yours that make you feel otherwise, and anthromorphizing their behavior as “loyalty and love,” but yeah dude. You are their food source. They wouldn’t “love” you otherwise.

Chickens are a functional source of protein. We keep them because they are genetically modified biological machines that turn shit we can’t or don’t want to eat into things we can. They will also peck at your eyes just because they are shiny. Their tiny little dinosaur brains are not capable of much more than that.

Chickens lay eggs pretty much automatically. Also, they are terrifying little dinosaur fuckheads with three brain cells shared across the species. You don’t need to feel bad about them.
